Reanne Weruche
Opia
Weruche Opia is a dedicated actor who refined her craft at top drama school Identity School of Acting. Her training included screen acting, audition technique, text & performance, radio plays & audiobooks, Stanislavski, Meisner, monologues, improvisation, and voice. Weruche excelled in her screen course, which focuses on practical work on film and television scripts, with constant reference to the technical knowledge. From this training her dedication and skill earnt a nomination for a British Academy Television Award for her role in the BBC series “I May Destroy You”.
Following her television debut with a guest appearance in a 2010 episode of The Bill, Opia ventured into Nigeria, where she spent a year with the Renegade Theatre Company. Upon her return to England in 2012, she graced the small screen in notable productions such as the Channel 4 crime drama Top Boy and the Channel 5 procedural Suspects.
Opia’s breakthrough came with her portrayal of Cleopatra Ofoedo in the third series of the BBC comedy Bad Education and its subsequent 2015 spinoff film. Her performance in the film When Love Happens earned her a nomination in the Nollywood Actress of the Year category at the 2015 Nigeria Entertainment Awards. From 2019 to 2020, Opia showcased her talent as Naomi in the main cast of the Dave sitcom Sliced.
Opia’s career reached new heights with her compelling portrayal of Terry Pratchard in Michaela Coel’s groundbreaking BBC series I May Destroy You, which premiered in June 2020. Her stellar performance earned her a nomination for a British Academy Television Award and a well-deserved Black Reel Award. In 2022, she captivated audiences once again with her role in the ITV thriller Our House.
